TEMA OIL REFINERY SAGA: CPP WANTS GOVERNMENT TO RECONSIDER PLANS TO SCRAP COMPANY.
The attempt by the Energy Ministry to scrap the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) and turn it into a tank farm for the sole purpose of storing fuel has received widespread condemnation.
Chief Executive Officer of TOR, Isaac Osei and Policy Analyst Steve Manteaw have both criticized the move arguing it will not inure to the benefit of the country.
Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko while addressing an Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) in USA recently, said the government intends establishing a new refinery hub in the Western Region near the Jubilee Fields hence the plan to scrap TOR and turn it into a storage facility or a tank farm.
The Forum for Rebuilding CPP is the latest to kick against this and say it is an attempt to wipe the legacy of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
The CPP also argue that the scrapping of TOR will lead the loss of jobs, while the criticism of the scrapping of TOR rages on, government and the Minister of Energy, Boakye Agyarko are yet to react to the concerns raised. Meanwhile the minority in parliament has declared its intention to fiercely resist the move to turn TOR into a Tank Farm.
