KMA demolishes Kejetia toilets

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has razed down a 50-seater toilet facility serving the public at the Kejetia Bus Terminal.

Authorities say the facility was demolished to make room for re-development.

The place convenience which also has 12 bathrooms, four urinals, four dressing rooms, and an office complex has served traders and commuters for over 2-years.

Peaking to Accra based Class FM, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Franco Company Ltd, Mr Adu Gyamfi, managers of the toilet facility, said the facility was put up under a BOT – Build Operate Transfer – deal with the metropolitan authorities.

According to him, they had agreed to hand over the building when the 30-year period expired but the KMA took a rushed decision to abort the deal without prior information.

“The owners took a loan from the bank to construct the facility and out of the daily sales they make payments to the bank. Now that KMA has demolished this facility, how are we going to service our debt?” he asked.

Meanwhile the KMA are so far avoiding the media on the matter.
