Ghana’s government has declared Monday September 12, 2016 as a statutory public holiday.
The day marks the observance of the Muslim sacred festival, Eid-ul-Adha.
The festival, also known as the Feast of the Sacrifice, marks the end of Hajj and involves animal sacrifice as a symbol of Ibrahim’s sacrifice to Allah.
A statement released by the Minister for the Interior, Prosper K Bani, on Thursday September 8 said the day should be observed throughout the country.
“The general public is hereby informed that Monday, 12 September, 2016, which marks the celebration of the Eid-ul-Adha, is a statutory public holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country.”
