Ghana’s Amartey to get new coach as Leicester sack Ranieri

Ghana international Daniel Amartey is set to work under a new manager after directors of English champions Leicester City decided to sack Claudio Ranieri Thursday night.

The Italian, 65, signed the Black Stars defender last season and went on to lead the club to a shock Premier League success just nine months ago.

But the Foxes have endured a sharp decline in fortunes in the 2016/17 season and have dropped into the relegation picture – a point above the drop with 13 matches left.

“The board reluctantly feels that a change of leadership, while admittedly painful, is necessary in the club’s greatest interest,” said a statement.

“His status as the most successful Leicester City manager of all time is without question.”

“However, domestic results in the current campaign have placed the club’s Premier League status under threat,” added the Foxes statement.

The Foxes have won just five league games so far this season and are in contention to becoming the first title holders to be relegated since 1938.
