Accra Psychiatric Hosp. nurses’ strike illegal – NLC

The National Labour Commission (NLC) has directed striking nurses at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital to resume duties immediately.

The order follows a meeting between the Commission, the Minister of Health, representatives of the nurses and authorities of the hospital on Wednesday.

According to Charles Adongo Bawa Duah, the Executive Secretary of the NLC, nurses at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital breached the labour laws by failing to notify the Commission before taking the action.

The nurses have been on strike since Monday October 31 demanding improved working conditions.

At the meeting, the Labour Commission also ordered the Health Ministry to meet the needs of the disgruntled nurses. The nurses have bemoaned of a lack of adequate working equipment and drugs to aid their work at the mental facility.
