GPL: Coach George Lamptey parts ways with Liberty

2 min read

Coach George Lamptey has left his position as head of the technical team of Ghana Premier League side, Liberty Professionals.

Lamptey, who had been at the club for about 15 years, was on the verge of another era with the Dansoman-based club after managers of the club offered to re-engage him following a disbandment of his backroom due to a poor campaign in the 2015/16 season. The club escaped relegation by a whisker.

Speaking exclusively to GHOne Sports Monday, coach George Lamptey said after reviewing his options, he opted to bow out.

“I have had enough of Liberty – from the Under-20 to the senior side. This time, I want to work on my own so I decided to resign,” he stated.

Coach Lamptey further revealed intentions of steering off the Premier League, saying he would prefer taking up a new challenge in the lower division.

“Yes, I’m free but I want to go off the Premier League for now – maybe to the Division One or a Second Division team where I can organize the youth.”

Meanwhile, Liberty Professionals have also confirmed a mutual parting of ways with the long-serving trainer.

“Yes, coach Lamptey is no longer with us. He opted to move on and has the club’s blessings,” Director of Communications for Liberty Professionals, Godfred Akoto Boafo explained to GHOne TV.
